Description

The EPOS Research Grant supports a broad range of research areas, including patient-based studies, clinical and basic science research, and clinical trials.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI must be an EPOS member in good standing and a licensed orthopaedic surgeon.

Evaluation Criteria

The research project will be evaluated based on:

  • Scientific & Methodological Quality – Purpose, hypothesis, methodology, literature review, and level of evidence.
  • Clinical & Scientific Relevance – The study’s impact, innovation, and originality.
  • Feasibility & Risks – The project’s viability, potential challenges, and adequacy of available resources.
  • Budget Justification – Realistic allocation of funds for personnel, materials, and travel.

The research group will also be assessed based on:

  • The PI’s scientific track record, team experience, and previous involvement in EPOS.
  • Encouragement of young researchers (<40 years old) and multi-centre or society-wide projects.

Scoring & Selection

  • Applications will be graded 0 to 20 by the EPOS Scientific Committee.
  • The top 8 ranked projects will receive funding.
  • The amount awarded will be determined by the final score and the project’s provisional budget.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted to researchgrants@epos.org by the deadline. Only complete applications will be evaluated. Paper applications will not be accepted.

Required Documents:

  1. Applicant’s Curriculum Vitae, including:
    • Postgraduate career and current employment
    • Training in paediatric orthopaedics
    • Research experience
    • Academic record
    • Relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals
  2. Research Proposal, detailing the purpose, hypothesis, methodology, and a short literature review.
  3. Provisional Budget, outlining expenses for personnel, materials, and other project costs.

Application Deadline & Notification

  • Applications must be submitted by 30 September each year.
  • Candidates should apply in advance to allow time for any missing documents to be corrected.
  • Late applications will not be considered.
  • Successful applicants will be notified via email by the end of the year.

Grant Payment & Reporting

Payment Schedule:

  • 50% upon acceptance
  • 50% after six months, following submission of a progress report demonstrating significant project advancement.

Final Scientific Report:
A comprehensive scientific report must be submitted within three months of project completion. If approved by the EPOS Executive Committee, the study will receive EPOS endorsement.
