The Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit at Erasmus MC - Sophia Children’s Hospital is the largest in the Netherlands. It comprises seven paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, four spinal surgeons, and three dedicated upper extremity surgeons. As an integral part of the Department of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, it provides comprehensive paediatric orthopaedic care across all subspecialties. Observerships are available in all core areas of expertise or a combination thereof, including paediatric sports, cerebral palsy, limb deformity, DDH, upper extremity surgery, and spinal surgery.
Erasmus MC - Sophia serves as the central hub of a paediatric orthopaedic network, which also includes Leiden University Medical Centre and Amphia Hospital. Observers can visit different hospitals within this network, gaining valuable insight into various levels of paediatric orthopaedic care. Rotterdam, the most multicultural city in the Netherlands, welcomes English-speaking observers despite Dutch being the native language. Those interested in an observership are encouraged to contact one of the staff members listed above. Please note that the Department of Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine does not provide local accommodation or transport.
