Goals and Action Plan

1. Enhancing Clinical Care, Education, and Research

EPOS is committed to advancing paediatric orthopaedics across its territory through collaboration with EPOS members and national societies. Our key initiatives include:

Education & Training

  • Hosting two BAT Trilogy Courses annually (March, October) in Vienna.
  • Offering 2–3 BAT Advanced Courses in specialised centres.
  • Organising at least one Regional Core Curriculum Course (in or outside the EPOS territory) and one Regional Advanced Course within the EPOS region.
  • Providing online education, including live webinars, recorded lectures, and surgical technique videos.

Research & Innovation

  • Awarding grants for research projects in paediatric orthopaedics.
  • Supporting multicentre clinical studies and large-scale European research projects.
  • Developing EPOS evidence-based clinical guidelines for common disorders.

Scholarships & Fellowships

  • Providing scholarships for young surgeons to attend EPOS annual meetings and courses.
  • Running travelling fellowship programmes with sister societies and clinical observerships in European centres.

Collaboration & Networking

  • Strengthening partnerships with national paediatric orthopaedic societies and orthopaedic and trauma societies.
  • Increasing EPOS involvement in national meetings and courses.
  • Establishing joint scientific initiatives with sister societies such as POSNA, SLAOTI, POSI, APOA, and IFPOS.
  • Ensuring equitable access for EPOS members to all EPOS activities.

Standardising Training & Accreditation

  • Developing a core curriculum to harmonise paediatric orthopaedic training in Europe.
  • Evaluating and expanding the FEPOS programme, increasing the number of accredited centres.
  • Ensuring the maintenance and continuity of JCO (Journal of Children’s Orthopaedics).

2. Increasing EPOS Visibility & Outreach

EPOS aims to enhance its presence among orthopaedic surgeons, healthcare professionals, parents, and industry partners through

Digital Engagement

  • Strengthening website and social media outreach, particularly to attract young and potential members.

Industry & Professional Engagement

  • Developing long-term collaborations with industry partners.
  • Encouraging young paediatric orthopaedic surgeons to actively engage in EPOS.
  • Expanding involvement across all European countries, with a focus on major nations.

Public Awareness & Policy Development

  • Promoting humanitarian and social initiatives to support the public.
  • Developing health policies to improve paediatric orthopaedic care.
  • Providing useful information and resources for parents.

3. Optimising EPOS Management & Sustainability

To ensure long-term efficiency and financial stability, EPOS focuses on:

Effective Event Management

  • Organising annual meetings and courses with financial sustainability in mind.
  • Ensuring financial stability and making strategic future projections.

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Defining clear tasks and policies for efficient society management.
  • Strengthening PR and financial partnerships.
  • Reorganising the central office where necessary.
  • Establishing a code of conduct and strategic priorities.
  • Implementing a step-by-step approach to achieving these goals.
